Studded snow tires -- do you even need them? What
types are the best? How do you know when you need a new set? These are common
questions that every vehicle owner asks.
First of all, keep in mind that
many automobile owners could save themselves a lot of money -- simply because
they don't need to purchase a set of studded snow tires. The reason for this
is that studded snow tires are for extremely snowy conditions, so if you do not
live in a part of the country which gets a lot of snowfall during the winter months,
you actually don't need to use them. Why pay for something you really don't
need?
What
types of studded snow tires are the best? Well, if you go to your local auto dealership
they'll try to tell you that only the brands they sell will work well with
your vehicle -- and you know that just isn't so.
Every community of
any size has at least one business that specializes in the sale of tires -- including
studded snow tires -- and you can usually purchase a set of four for about the
same amount of money that you would pay for two at your dealership.
How
do you know when you need a new set ? I like to use the "sound test"
-- when I drive my car and can't hear the "popping" sound very well,
I know the studs may be starting to wear down -- that's when I began shopping
around for a new set.
